About the artist
Hello, my name is Rachel and I’m an artist from New York City. I am a (mostly) self-taught artist, illustrator and photographer. Although I didn’t attend a formal art school I enjoy taking several courses and mentorships each year to keep myself inspired and interested in trying new mediums and techniques.
For many years I never really thought about how my art affected other people. I just felt compelled to create new things and experiment with materials and processes. But now, I love how my art impacts and uplifts others. I really enjoy seeing it in their homes and how they interact with a piece they call their very own.
Currently, I’m capturing the natural world around me expressed through the deeply personal space of dreams. I have always dreamt of a better world; one where we can dream in color and all be creatives. I look forward to a world where our environment is healthy and the people around us are kind, helpful and interested in improving themselves and their impact on their surroundings. I’m positive that this dream is real. Painting these dreams gives me hope.
Rachel is a member of SCBWI (Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators), the Transylvania Community Arts Council, the Art League of Henderson County, the Professional Photographers of America and a former student of the New York Institute of Photography. Rachel recently started her local chapter of the Urban Sketchers. While residing in NYC Rachel received several awards during her schooling years, including having an illustration on show at MoMA- PS1.
